  • Viles Foundation accepting scholarship applications

    The Viles Foundation, Inc., will be accepting Viles Scholarship applications through April 4, 2014.  The five year renewable scholarship is made available to qualifying half orphan or full orphan 2014 graduating seniors from the following high schools in San Miguel and Mora Counties:  Las Vegas Robertson, West Las Vegas, Mora, Pecos and Wagon Mound.

  • HU students design cultural center exhibit

    Two New Mexico Highlands University media arts students designed the Getting Up Pa’L Pueblo exhibit that opened late last month to acclaim at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque.

    The exhibit features woodblock prints and stencils created by the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca or ASARO, a contemporary artists collective in southern Mexico. The University of New Mexico owns the ASARO art collection featured in the exhibit.

  • Students make VP honor roll

    Luna Community College announced its Fall 2013 Vice President’s Honor Roll. Inclusion on the honor roll requires students to successfully complete, without incomplete grades included, a minimum of 12 graded credit hours with a 3.660 GPA or higher.  Graded credit hours do not include S/U graded courses, audits or credit by exam.

  • Hamann awarded internship in Paris

    New Mexico Highlands University chemistry junior Katie Hamann will be conducting cutting-edge laser research at universities in Paris this summer through a National Science Foundation internship program.

    Hamann is one of 12 undergraduate chemistry students in the country selected for the Optics in the City of Lights Program, a partnership with the University of Michigan.  

  • Printmaking exhibit reception today

    New Mexico Highlands University presents Print, Printed, Printing, an original fine art printmaking exhibit featuring contemporary national and international artists until Saturday. The public reception for the art exhibit is at 5 p.m. today (Friday) in the Burris Hall Gallery, 903 National Ave. The work of approximately 80 artists is represented in the exhibit.

    The program runs through Saturday.

  • LCC’s Martinez honored at State Capitol

    Luna Community College’s Montana Martinez was among 40 students statewide who were honored at the State Capitol recently after earning a spot on the All-State Academic Team.

    Martinez, a 2011 West Las Vegas High graduate, earned a tuition scholarship to a four-year New Mexico University of her choice.
