  • Johnny “Papa” Ortiz, Jr.

    Johnny “Papa” Ortiz, Jr., 78, a life long resident of Pecos, N.M., and beloved husband, father, and brother, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. 

  • David Chavez

    David Chavez, age 60, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at Miners Colfax Medical Center in Raton, N.M. after a long illness. 

    David was born on July 27, 1948, in Springer, N.M., to Bertha Herrera Chavez and the late Bences Chavez. 

    He was a 1967 graduate of Springer High School and a graduate of Denver Technical College. David married Michaeleen Green in 1970 and they made their home in Denver where David was employed with the Public Service Company of Colorado. 

  • Candelaria Lucero

    Candelaria Lucero, age 77, a life-long resident of Las Vegas, N.M.,  passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M.

    She was born on Feb. 24, 1931 in Las Vegas, N.M., to Benito Solano and Simplicia Madrid-Solano.  

    She was united in marriage on Oct. 10, 1949 in Las Vegas, N.M., to the late Cresencio Lucero  

    She enjoyed cooking, going to dances, and spending time with her  grandchildren.

    She was a life-long Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

  • Rogelia Vasquez

    Rogelia Vasquez, age 84, a lifelong resident of Ojo Feliz, N.M., in Mora County  passed away at her home on Friday, Dec.12, 2008.

    She was born March 18, 1924 in Turquillo, N.M., to the late Gregorio Vigil and Concepsion Montoya Vigil.  Among her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Claudio Vasquez; sons, Adolfo, Leroy, Orlando and Anthony Vasquez, as well as many brothers and sisters, as she was the last surviving of her siblings.

    Candelaria Lucero, age 77, a life long resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M.

    Rosary devotional services for Dorothy Vigil were held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services were conducted this morning at 9 at Immaculate Conception Church, with Father George Salazar as celebrant.

    Flora Ortiz, age 89, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.

    She was born in Santa Fe, N.M., on May 29, 1919, to the late Albert Ludi and Manuelita Maes-Ludi.

    She was united in marriage, August 1939 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Las Vegas, N.M. to Gumecindo Ortiz.

    Reyes Antonio Ruiz

    Jan. 6, 1917 - Dec. 8, 2008

    A Rosary will be recited Friday, Dec. 12 by the Catholic Daughters at 3 p.m. at St. Anthony Parish in Pecos. A Rosary will be recited by the Hermaños at the Santo Niño Mission at 7 p.m. in Lower Colonias that evening. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in Lower Colonias with interment to follow in the Santo Niño Mission. Friends and relatives may visit with the family following the burial in Pecos at Casa de Herrera.

    Dorothy Vigil, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M. went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M., following an extended illness.

  • Bella Eva Garcia

    Bella Eva Garcia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Dec. 6, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.

    She was born in the village of San Jose, N.M., to Frutoso and Magdalena (Gallegos) Garcia.

    Mrs. Garcia attended elementary school in San Jose and was a graduate of Las Vegas Robertson High School. She worked at the San Miguel County Courthouse for 13 years.
