New Mexico Highlands senior first baseman Matthew Chavez has been named Honorable Mention All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Chavez, who appeared in all 46 games for Highlands with 45 starts, finished second on the team with a .371 batting average while leading the Cowboys with a .984 fielding percentage.

He co-led the team, with Omar Garcia, with 41 runs batted in and 18 doubles. He and classmates Andrew Ratterman and E.J. Stanton all had three triples to lead the team.
