On Saturday, the spotlight in The Pit belonged to West Las Vegas’ cheer squad.
The team captured a Class 4A state championship in the co-ed cheer category with a strong routine that defeated half a dozen other schools represented.
It’s the first time West has earned a top-three trophy at the state spirit competition since 2009, when the squad placed third. West was a state runner-up in 2007.
“It’s been an amazing year,” said WLV head coach Isabel Cavazos. “Each of these kids are the best.”
