The man convicted of shooting his friend to death during a meth-fueled party in May of 2013 and then burning the victim’s body and an apartment to cover up the crime stood before District Judge Gerald Baca on Wednesday pleading for sympathy and mercy.
“If I was in my right mind that night, none of this would have happened,” Montoya said during his sentencing hearing. “When you’re on meth, you’re not in your right mind. I didn’t think, I just acted. I was scared.”
