Gov defends budget vetoes

As Gov. Susana Martinez made her way across northern New Mexico this week, continuing a public relations tour after her vetoes of the state budget and funding for higher education made national headlines, she pointed the blame for the impasse directly at state legislators.

“I’ve been disappointed before,” she told the Optic in a one-on-one interview Tuesday, “but I’ve never felt like they left New Mexico hanging in the balance like this session. The budget they sent me is not balanced, and they overspent.”
