    Highlands University

    The New Mexico Highlands University Music Technology Program presents an Original Music Concert at 7 p.m. Friday in Ilfeld Auditorium.

    The styles of music featured are as varied as the students themselves, including rock, alternative, folk, hip-hop, singer-songwriter, and more.

    Department of Music professor Edward Harrington directs the Music Technology Program, and the concert.

    • Casa de Samaritan Homeless shelter at 716 Grand Ave. is operating 365 nights per year, providing meals, laundry and hot showers from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. From November through March, the shelter is open for overnight stays. Their Thrift Store, at Seventh and Legion, offers vouchers for clothing, bedding, etc. Applications for rental services for those who may qualify are available. Samaritan House offers a food pantry distribution every second and fifth Wednesday. Call 454-1390.

  • On Saturday, the Guadalupita Volunteer Firemen Auxiliary hosted an egg hunt and event for the family.  It was well attended and a great success. There were 75 children who took part in the egg hunt. There were many prizes donated by different merchant and individuals.

    Inside Betty Richardson and a group of women manned the silent auction, bake sale and gave out the prizes. Outside James Daring and his crew took care of the food service serving hot dogs, nachos and drinks.

  • My mind can wander, change the subject at the drop of a hat, as they say. One thing leads to another, and suddenly the conversation changes, reverts to yet another experience, a visit to old times once again.

    Case in point: My neighbor and I have a visit about pork, as in bacon, ham, sausage, etc. Seems as how bacon has doubled in price in just the last month. Apparently a virus is killing baby pigs by the thousands, therefore our traditional breakfast bacon will be a luxury item... not good new for a lot of us. I suspect lard will also become pricey.
