  • Tuesday, March 15, 1966 — The Board of Trustees of the Town of West Las Vegas met at Town Hall Monday night to clear up some unfinished business with incumbents seated, and then, after recessing, re-convened with the new Trustees seated. The new board is composed of two holdover members, Ignacio (Nash) Lucero and Ernest Chavez, and two members elected March first. Joe R. Patron and Jose D. Perea. Fidel (Chief) Gonzales, incumbent mayor was re-elected.

    “They’ll make you laugh, they make you cry and make you think,” said Nat Gold Players’ president Kayt Peck of the collection of mostly original 10-minute plays to be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 19 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.  Both performances will be at Charlie’s Spic and Span Event Center on Douglas Avenue.

  • Monday, March 14, 1966 — There’s always a first time, and this was it. The Pecos High School Panthers, coached by Jake Martinez, paced a fiery final quarter to edge Springer 61-59 to win for the first time the New Mexico Class B basketball crown last Saturday at Johnson Gymnasium in Albuquerque. Providing the needed spark, substitute Jim Fleming replaced Paul Villas, who fouled out, to boost the Panthers to a 2-point final quarter with nine points and 13 rebounds off both boards.
