    Alta Vista Regional Hospital will hold its annual free community-wide Health Fair at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center. Free health screenings and information will be featured from area health care and insurance providers, consumer advocates and other groups. The United Blood Services will be on site to accept blood donations. Other offerings at the health fair include face painting, games for the kids and much more.     Carnegie Library Story Time takes place in the children’s area of library. This week’s book is “Scooby Doo Search for Scooby Snacks” by Robin Wasserman. All programs are free and open to the public.

    • Casa de Samaritan Homeless Shelter at 716 Grand Ave. is operating every night, providing meals, laundry and hot showers from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The shelter is open for overnight stays Nov. 1 to March 31. The Thrift Store, at Seventh and Legion, offers vouchers for clothing. Samaritan House offers a food pantry distribution every second and fifth Wednesday. Applications for rental services for those who may qualify are available call 454-1390.

    The Mora Youth Hunter Education Club members attended the Northern New Mexico Clay Target Challenge recently.

    The tournament was jointly sponsored by the hosting Los Alamos Sportsman’s Club, New Mexico Game and Fish and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

    Competitions were held in trap, bunker trap, five stand and Annie Oakley (an elimination contest) with first place medals awarded for boys and girls in three age categories.

  • The old boxes of books stored here keep me busy — busy going back in time with my vast family history. Most of the medical library is now housed at our University of New Mexico medical school, and I’m confident scholars there find these old books and their often dog- eared pages interesting.

    Noon to 6 p.m.
    Mora Valley Community Health Services will be hosting its 40th Anniversary Open House from noon to 6 p.m. to meet the new providers. Free health screenings will be available. Barbecue, refreshments, music and door prizes. The clinic is located at 3 Mora Valley Clinic Road in Mora.

    5 p.m.
    Mora  High School volleyball teams will face off with the Lady Panthers of Pecos High School. Both the junior varsity and varsity will be competing. Games take place at Pecos High School.

    Second Annual Historic Las Vegas Art Studio Tour takes place form noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at various locations. Maps of tour stops are available online at www.lasvegasartstour.com or at the Las Vegas Arts Council office at 140 Bridge Street.
