    • Lions Club Glasses Collection Boxes are at the following locations. Banks: Southwest Capital, Community 1st, Douglas Ave and Legion Park; Wells Fargo; State Employees Credit Union. Opticians’ offices: Wal-Mart, Eye Associates, Mills Ave; Insight Optical, Highway 518. Also at Shoes ‘n Boots, Seventh Street. Used glasses are repaired then donated to charity groups serving those in need around the world.

    Karl Cordova, a 20-year veteran of the National Park Service (NPS), has been named superintendent of Pecos National Historical Park in northern New Mexico.  Cordova will also oversee the administration of Fort Union National Monument in Watrous. He will assume his new post on July 15.

    Cordova is currently the superintendent at Casa Grande Ruins and Hohokam Pima National Monuments in Coolidge, Ariz.

    He has served in this position since July 2009.

    • Science Camp is for local community kids, in grades sixth through eighth, Wednesday, July 9 to Thursday, July 10. Hosted by Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance at the Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge near Watrous. Camp participants will leave Las Vegas at 8 a.m. on July 9 and will return to Las Vegas at 5 p.m. on July 10. Limited number of spots available.     The Sixth Annual Baby/Tiny Miss and Mister Las Vegas Pageant was held last month at West Las Vegas High School.  
    Twenty one girls and five boys competed for the titles in beauty in formal wear and personality in patriotic wear.

    Mariah Devine Lujan won the title of Baby Miss Las Vegas 2014.  She also won the title of Candid Princess and Best Personality. Lujan, 2, is the daughter of Robert and Crystal Lujan.
