  • October seems to be my “fall behind” month, an not just because it is fall. My house is suffering through an invasion once again. Yes, it is a good invasion however.

    My cousin Yolanda spent several days here with me last month, and I welcomed her and her knowledge and interest in anything that grows, blooms or is green.

    Parachute Factory, northern New Mexico’s leading makerspace, will host two free events for all ages on Friday and Sunday.
    On Halloween Friday), join Chapter 1063 of the Vietnam Veterans of America for a special holiday edition of Fixit Friday. Bring in whatever needs to be fixed. Veteran volunteers will be glad to help.

    Friday’s event takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the factory, located at 166 Bridge St.

    • Story Time at Carnegie Library is at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the children’s area of the public library. This week’s book is “The Halloween Visitor” by Michelle Smith. Free and open to the public.

    If Luna Community College was looking for more unity in student entities, it got it as five student organizations are getting involved in a haunted house fundraiser that is set for Friday Oct. 31 and  Saturday, Nov. 1. The LCC Haunted House Fundraiser will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. The event will be held at the Luna Community College Humanities Building.

    • New Mexico Department of Health’s San Miguel Public Health Office will host a flu shot clinic from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 at the Rociada Fire Department in Rociada. There is no charge to those attending the clinic, but everyone should bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them. Everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine each flu season. For more information on the no-charge flu shot clinic, call the San Miguel Public Health Office at 425-9368.
