  • I continue to be surprised at what the next mail will bring. My fun readers surprise me with events that are obviously historic, as in old programs. And thankfully I am old enough to remember things, events of so long ago.

I received a program recently for the Las Vegas, New Mexico Roosevelt Rough Riders Cowboys’ Reunion Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Aug. 6 through Aug. 8, 1954; rodeo events at Legion Park.

    WEDNESDAY

    10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

  • “Murder on the Petulant Express” was brilliant. Oh true, some New York theater snob would probably have sniffed, but this isn’t New York, and we are thankfully lacking in a preponderance of snobs in this area. The fledgling thespians of Mora Area Community Theater put together an outstanding dinner/mystery, performed at the Mora Valley Baptist Church last Friday evening. If this event is any indication, the company of Mora players has a bright future.

  • The lunch menu for the Mora/Wagon Mound Senior Centers, with coffee and milk served daily.

    MONDAY
    Closed for Presidents Day

    TUESDAY
Hamburger steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, biscuit and margarine, fruit salad, and cottage cheese

    WEDNESDAY
Oven friend chicken, braised onions, green beans and potatoes, carrot raisin salad, whole wheat bread, and mandarin oranges

    THURSDAY
Pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, asparagus, bread with margarine, and applesauce

  • What is going on, weather-wise? We should be showing snow this morning, as I write this. The temperature is 55 degrees and wind gusts have topped 50 miles per hour. This translates into all available soil moisture being sucked out of the ground. Those of us who are farmers and wildland firefighters are now very worried, rightfully so.
