  • Palabras Pintorescas: Accidents bring back memories of train wreck

    Once in a while bad news bumps good news off the front page of the paper and the radio and television programs. Two area car wrecks come to mind when I mention this.

    I am closely related to one of our fire department first responders, and he was called out early in the morning here because of a head-on crash down our road a few miles. The injuries were severe, but the occupants survived.

  • Mora County Notebook: Romero organizes Memorial Wall dedication

    The Memorial Wall for the Mora Independent school was dedicated last  Thursday; a dedication ceremony hadn’t been held for eight years. Xavier Romero, Student Activities Coordinator, was asked to coordinate the dedication.
    Romero worked long and hard with the cooperation of the administration to put the program together.
    He also served as master of ceremonies and gave the main speech.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Where’s a genie when I need her?

    Oh, what I’d give to find that bottle that supposedly has a genie trapped inside. I’d free her, and ask her to take me back in time. Yes, way back because there are folks I’d like to meet and things I’d like to see.

    Case in point: I found a very old newspaper clipping in an aged family book not long ago. I don’t know which newspaper printed this story but I do know it is in Wisconsin. The headline says “Brown Indian relics given to state society.”

Already purchased tickets, may be used for entry for the concert on April 24.
