    • The Las Vegas-San Miguel County Chamber of Commerce will host a business after hours gathering and membership drive at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15 at the Chamber’s office at 624 University Ave.

    Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance is offering a fly-fishing workshop for beginners or experienced anglers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Gallinas Canyon. The workshop was originally scheduled for mid-May but due to water conditions was rescheduled for Saturday.

    Fly-fishing, like hunting, helps keep us connected with reading the land and water ways. Discussion will focus on whether the river is healthy enough to support trout and how to enhance the river’s ability to sustain a healthy trout population.

    • West Mora Soil and Water Conservation District has new hours: 10 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. On days when regular or special meetings are scheduled, the office will be open from noon to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call Megan McCawley-Rivera at 575-387-2424 ext. 5.

    • Luna Community College’s main campus in Las Vegas will remain open on Friday, June 12. The college had previously reported that the City of Las Vegas would be doing a water system upgrade on that day; however, they will not work on the project until Friday, June 19.

    The  Saint Vrain Mill Preservation and Historical Foundation has achieved its lontime goal of purchacing the mill. Merl Witt, the foundation’s president, said the mill was purchased earlier this month from Michael and Chris Montoya of Mescalero.

  • Catching up in person with friends from 60 plus years ago is always fun. One of my favorite high school and college friends spent several days with me here at the ranch recently. We do admit we are getting older, but we still have a lot to laugh about and to be thankful for in so many ways.

    Pecos National Historical Park will be hosting a Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site Navajo Rug and Jewelry Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

    Learn about historic Indian trading and the living artistic legacy of Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, the oldest continuously operating trading post in the Southwest.

    • Story Time is over for summer at Carnegie Library and registration for the Summer Reading Program ends on Wednesday, June 10. Forms are available at the library.
    • “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” photography exhibit, featuring works by Joe and Martha McCaffrey, will be on display until June 10 at Kennedy Hall Gallery on the Highlands campus.

    Luna Community College

    Luna Community College will be having its 11th Annual Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the college.

    A $20 entry fee is required per vehicle. Entries will be received until the day of the event. The first 100 paid entries will receive a commemorative T-shirt and a plaque. All entries will qualify for door prize drawings. Entries will be received until the day of the event.
