Today's Features

  • Saturday the Mora Little League had its first registration day at Russell’s parking lot.

    It was a busy day for the Little League representatives. They were thankful for the beautiful day (excepting for the wind).

    There were many parents and young players enthusiastically looking forward to a new season.

    Young people from ages 4 through 16 came to signup for the 2011 Little league season. There were 35 players who signed up on Saturday.

  • I’ll bet 90 percent of today’s young people have no idea, not even an inkling of,  what a butter chip is. Butter chips went out of style when I was small, but I do remember our proper British mother demanding they be placed at the correct spot on our very formal holiday tables when set, at Valmora. These very small, sometimes fancy plates held one’s pat of butter, of course.

  • The Miss Las Vegas Scholarship Organization is sponsoring the Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 27 at the West Las Vegas High School Cafeteria.  

    The Miss Las Vegas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant is a preliminary of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.  The phases of competition are interview, talent, sports wear, evening wear and on-stage question.

  • The third annual raffle drawing for the Friends of the City of Las Vegas Museum took place on Feb. 24 at the Museum. The drawing was held in conjunction with the Friends’ public Annual Meeting.  

    Margaret Vazquez-Geffroy and Patrick Alarid, were re-elected to the Friends Board and the past year’s Friends and Museum activities were reported.

    • Las Vegas Senior Center Improvement Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 18 at 500 Sabino Street. The improvements will include a new flagpole, automatic water closet flush valves and faucets and, with the push of a button, automatic restroom doors. In addition, the existing fenced vehicle area will be covered with a metal roof, adding to ease of operation and overnight vehicle security. The Daily Congregate Meal will be sponsored by the Mayor’s Community Initiative Fund. For more information, call 454-1401.
