    • San Miguel County offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13 in observance of the Columbus Day holiday.
    They will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
    • City of Las Vegas offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 13 in observance of Columbus Day. The Abe Montoya Recreation Center will remain open. All essential services will continue. City offices will re-open on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

    The public is invited to an information meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to learn about foster and adoptive parenting opportunities with New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. The information meeting will be held at the local CYFD office at 2518 Ridge Runner Road.

    • An indoor flea market will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 10 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Bernal Community Center.
    • Oil and watercolor paintings by Kimberly Reed-Deemer and acrylic paintings and pastel drawings by Johanna Kennan are on display until Oct. 10 at El Fidel Restaurant.

  • Roberta Vigil was on the prowl for years trying to learn how to weave until roughly 20 years ago when a group of women from Ocaté decided to take a class in weaving. Since then Vigil has never stopped, and her work has progressed from smooth lines to complex pieces featuring wildlife, cattle brands and unique designs.

  • “There is a story here.” I must have said that a dozen times recently. I discovered an event at nearby (to me) Pendaries called the Autumn Harvest Festival. Center stage in  this event was an exhibit, a lineup of some very special cars.

    • CASA Fourth Judicial District Annual Silent Auction, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Faith Hall, behind St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Las Vegas. Gift certificates for food, auto detail, books, haircuts, along with jewelry, household goods and more. A $10 donation will be collected at the door. Come eat, bid and mingle.
