    The famous ghost of Spanish Folklore is a widespread legend in North and South America is known throughout the world for her chilling cries as she searches for her loved ones.

    • The San Miguel Unit of the American Red Cross helps with any natural disaster and house fires. Persons interested in becoming a member are asked to contact Contact Connie Chavez at 425-6224. Meetings are held every third Thursday at 6 p.m. in Faith Hall.

    Highlands University

    The New Mexico Highlands University Jazz Ensemble presents a concert at 7 p.m. today (Friday) and the Madrigal Choir presents a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

    Both Department of Music concerts will be in Ilfeld Auditorium at 900.

    The Jazz Ensemble will perform pieces like Brass Machine, Eleanor Rigby, My Funny Valentine, Things Ain’t What They Used to Be, Joy Spring, and Bluesette.

    Edward Harrington, music technology and education professor, directs the Jazz Ensemble.

    • The city of Las Vegas Utilities Department will stop providing effluent reuse water for residential customers beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15. For more information, call Vanessa Marquez at 426-3319.
    • New Mexico Highlands University’s Jazz Ensemble concert, 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 at Ilfeld Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and NMHU students are free with valid ID.


  • On Saturday evening the VFW and Auxiliary Mora Post 1131 honored the veterans by holding a dinner, dance and program, at the VFW Building.

    The evening began with a social hour and dinner.

    When the program started, Master of Ceremonies, Adjutant Betty Griego introduced Senior Vice Commander Cip Torres and he led the Pledge of Allegiance, Melvin Vigil, Chaplain, then led the group in the meal prayer. The guests were then welcomed and the staff introduced and all were invited to eat.

  • Oh, my! There must be some mistake. I just got a Christmas catalog in the mail. How dare any business try to buck the trend by sending these catalogs out before Thanksgiving?

    My mother (if she were here) would have a lot to say about this rush to sell toys and more. The big catalogs of yesteryear Montgomery Ward, Sears, Roebuck and Penneys came to our house right after Thanksgiving. Our home post office was at Valmora (the TB sanatorium where we lived) was in the back of our Valmora store. The store was small.
