  • Last Friday’s windstorm left lots of trash for the annual clean-up crew. Making the Mora Chamber of Commerce annual Clean-up Day a great success.

    People stopped at the parking lot to pick up bags and safety vests. The volunteers then picked up trash and cleaned the main highway right-of- way and some side roads.

    Those who could not work on Saturday planned to pick up trash on Sunday but could not do so because of the snowstorm that passed through town.

  • I am lucky! I have friends in many places who consistently keep me informed about going’s on in the big world out there.        

    Many of us are avid readers and we share and promote any good read we encounter. A recent call from a friend down our road told me to hurry down to our favorite bookstore, Tome on the Range, and pick up a copy of “Appetite for America” by Stephen Fried.

    Highlands University

    The New Mexico Highlands University soccer and football teams turned out in force April 30 to paint warehouses on 12th Street as part of the third MainStreet de Las Vegas Façade Squad project.

    Cindy Collins, executive director for MainStreet, said the Façade Squad works to revitalize downtown commercial buildings to attract more local customers and visitors. The Façade Squad also works to preserve the history and culture of Las Vegas and build community pride.

    • Story Time, 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 in the children’s area of Carnegie Public Library. All programs are free and open to the public. This week’s theme is “Mother’s Day Celebration,” the book is “Eloise’s Mother’s Day Surprise” by Lisa McClatchy and the craft is “For Mom: A Message of Growing Love.”
