    • Las Vegas Cub Scouts Pack 60 has begun its annual popcorn sales. Cub Scouts is a nonprofit organization that uses the proceeds as a fundraiser. Cub Scouting promotes a boy’s character, citizenship and fitness in a positive and educational manner. To purchase popcorn or for more information, call Ida Sue at 617-0849.

    The Miss Las Vegas/Miss San Miguel County Pageant will hit the stage once again at 3 p.m. this Saturday at the West Las Vegas High School Cafeteria.

    The pageant is a preliminary of the Miss America Pageant. The theme for the pageant is Jingle Bell Rock.  The phases of competition are interview, talent, swimsuit, evening wear and on-stage question.

    Four  young women will be competing for scholarships and a chance to represent our area at the Miss New Mexico Pageant next June.

  • What do you know! A very new book just came my way. I knew a lot about it back in 1995 and then I more or less forgot about it. Now it is published and there will be a meet and greet, a book signing at Tome on the Range imminently, as in 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. I will be there, for obvious reasons!

  • New Mexico Highlands University presents “Preserving Your Historical Records: An Archival Holdings Maintenance Workshop”from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8 in the Margaret Kennedy Alumni Hall, 905 University Ave.

    The university’s Office of Research and Sponsored Projects and Donnelly Library are sponsoring the workshop.

    Participants will learn the basics of how to care for and store historical records.

This week’s book is “Dora and The Unicorn King” by Ellie Seiss and the character theme is “Dora the Explorer” The theme for the month is “Popular Characters.” All programs are free and open to the public.
