  • The Mora 4-H members showed what a hard working skilled group they, their parents and leaders are when one sees the results of the judging at the Mora/San Miguel County Fair. There were champions in several categories. Also the Fair Queen and Princess were from Mora.

    The Ashe Ranch of Mora was the winner of the Ranch Rodeo.

  • Well, I never dreamed I’d be reviewing a just-published book about Mora County and the somewhat historic events that happened here and in Alaska a few decades ago.
    “Pilgrim’s Wilderness: A true story of faith and madness on the Alaskan Frontier,” has just been published by Crown Press, and is written by Tom Kizzia, a longtime reporter for the Alaskan Newspaper, the Anchorage Daily News.

Opticians’ offices: WalMart, Eye Associates, Mills Ave; Insight Optical, Highway 518. Also at Shoes ‘n Boots, Seventh Street. Used glasses are repaired then donated to charity groups serving those in need around the world.

    Alicia Chacon and Jessica James have been busy this summer interning at the Mora San Miguel Electric Cooporative, Inc.

    The CEO/General Manager of the Mora-San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc., Alex Romero, has had internship programs with UNM and NAU prior to coming to the cooperative.

    He entered an agreement with Luna Community College to start an internship program for business students.

    This summer was the first step for the program. Chacon and James were selected for the program.

    • Operation Christmas Child Collections, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 at the local Wal-Mart. Worldwide Christmas Project to Collect Shoe Box Gifts for Hurting Children Through Operation Christmas Child, locals are joining people across the U.S. to fill empty shoe boxes with toys, school supplies and necessity items for impoverished children around the world.
