  • Watrous Day full of fun for the whole family

    Watrous was booming on Saturday for Watrous Day at the village park. Several  hundred attended the celebration which included a free barbecue of beans, meat, and bread served around noon, along with music by Quemoso, and a horseshoe tournament.

    The event was started several years ago by a group of people including Johnny Duran, Richard Garcia, Nappy Duran. On Saturday, the attendees ranged from 88-year-old Jose Lopez to Kendan Coca, 10 months.

    Monday — Hamburger steak, brown gravy with mushrooms, mashed potatoes, green beans with onions, wheat roll with margarine, and pineapple chunks
    Tuesday — Fidelos con carne, salad and dressing, mixed vegetables, flour tortilla, and orange-pineapple mix

    The tourists must love Las Vegas. Between music in Plaza Park (free, believe it or not) to a regal concert organ recital in Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The summer weekends have been busy, fun and entertaining for young, old and in between.

    And have you read any good books lately? I was a asked by a group of Mora neighbor gals to list recent books about our history here in northern New Mexico. I would need a whole page to list my general likes, choices here in the Optic.
