    • Nominations being sought for Las Vegas Citizens’ Committee for Historic Preservation Annual awards. Nominations for awards must be submitted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday or Tuesday to the CCHP building at 116 Bridge Street in Las Vegas. All nominations must be received by Tuesday, Sept. 20.   • Free health screenings and information will be featured at the free Community Health Fair sponsored by Alta Vista Regional Hospital from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the city of Las Vegas Abe Montoya Recreation Center gymnasium.

    “I look forward to visiting with community members at this years’ health fair,” says Maridel Acosta, chief executive officer at Alta Vista Regional Hospital. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness on health promotion and health education.”

    • Third Annual Ain’t Got No Frijoles Blues Festival, 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Sept. 16 with Wayne Roper and Unfinished Business and the Kenny Skywolf Band at the Plaza Hotel Ballroom. Tickets are needed for the Friday evening concert and may be purchased at the Plaza Hotel, Love Music and Travelers Cafe. Free concert from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Plaza Park featuring Jeff Romero and the Rainy Morning Blues Band, Wayne Roper and Unfinished Business, Kenny Skywolf Band and the Albuquerque Blues Connection.   • Juan Antonio “Tony” Pacheco recently celebrated his 89th birthday with his brothers, their wives and their families, nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces at the Tilford Memorial building in Chacon. The memorial building was a fitting place for his celebration as he and his family were born and raised in Chacon and spent their early years at the Mission School.

    • Story Time at Carnegie Library, 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the children’s area of the public library. This week’s book is “Charlie Needs a Cloak” by Tomie de Paola and the theme is “Happy Birthday, Mr. Tomie (Sept. 15).” All programs are free and open to the public.

    • Jesus “Jesse” Griego building dedication, 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the West Las Vegas Valley gymnasium in Ribera, N.M. A West Las Vegas High School graduate, Griego died in Vietnam and was a native of the Valley area.

    • The Las Vegas Municipal Court will be closed from Sept.13 to Sept. 16 so employees may attend a Justice Systems Conference out of town. If you have any questions you may contact any of our court staff at 425-9403.
