  • Congressman Ben Ray Luján visited the Mora Valley late last week, and he got an earful from residents on controversial issues like the closing of rural post offices and drilling. The event, which included heated discussions on controversial issues, took place at the David Cargo Library in Mora last Thursday.    

    The main problems that concerned the citizens present were the closing of the rural post offices, drilling in Mora County, health insurance issues, unemployment problems in the rural area and gun control.

  • The twists and turns of living in one place for a very long time make for interesting searches and research.

    Daughter Sherry is making photo journals for my granddaughters — we all should do this — and therefore, I needed to dig through those proverbial boxes of very old photographs. What a fun time that always is!
    So many of the family photos were taken by our busy mothers. They decided to record some event for history, thankfully, and the sometimes poorly lit, posed picture records so much more than they probably realized at the time.

    Alta Vista Regional Hospital has been recognized with the Outstanding Patient Safety Award from Community Health Systems, one of the nation’s leading systems of general acute-care hospitals.

    The organization includes AVRH and more than 130 other hospitals in 29 states.  

    Presented at the organization’s Chief of Staff annual meeting, Nancy Wright, M.D., vice-chief of staff of Alta Vista Regional accepted the award on behalf of the hospital.
