    • The Las Vegas Police Department is requesting assistance from business owners to update the department’s emergency contacts. They are requesting all local businesses to fill out an afterhours contact form to better serve the community. Forms are available at the station and on the city’s website.

  • During the packed Mora Chamber Commerce’s Winter Fest held in the Mora Elementary Gymnasium Santa Claus appeared with lots of toys for the many children who had been awaiting his arrival. The children were lined up all around the gym waiting for their turn to see Santa and receive a gift. Santa’s helpers, the Sangre de Cristo’s bikers, helped him get the gifts from many people who gave to their Toys for Tots program.

  • Eight degrees below zero is cold to colder, and hopefully by this time this is printed warmer weather will have returned. This cold is usually reserved for early January, not early December. Global warming not at its best, I’d say.

    • Story Time at Carnegie Library, 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, in the children’s area of the public library. This week’s book is “The Mouse Before Christmas” by Michael Garland. The theme for the month is “It’s Christmas Time in Las Vegas.” All programs are free and open to the public.

    • Rio Gallinas School of Ecology and the Arts’ celebration of learning from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at New Mexico Highlands University's Kennedy Hall. On Tuesday, the first to fourth grade students will present their work about the late Col. William Roberts also known as “Billy Goat Roberts.” On Wednesday, students in fifth to eighth grade will speak about “Water Around the World” and what they have learned since the beginning of the school year.
