    David Maestas, a 2009 graduate of West Las Vegas High School and former resident of Las Vegas, was recently sworn in as vice president of Associated Students of New Mexico State University, the student government of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

    ASNMSU, an independent entity from NMSU administration, provides services for more than 18,000 students on the NMSU main campus.

    Maestas was elected  in March by a vote of 1,291-754 over his opponent.

    • Fourth Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocates needs volunteers. The local CASA program is now taking applications for volunteers to work with children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect. Children are in state custody and living in foster care. Call 454-0223 or visit CASA office at 1308 Grant St. at the Rodriguez Softball Complex, mornings.

    • The El Creston Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association, San Miguel County, New Mexico, hereby wishes to inform all interested parties of San Miguel County of the intent to file an application with USDA, Rural Utilities Service. The purpose of the application is to request financial assistance to improve the water system of El Creston Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association.

  • Manuel Martinez Jr. had a goal of achieving perfect attendance during his 12 years of schooling.

    On his first day of school in the first grade he was so excited to be going to school he said he did not want to miss a day and he did not miss a day in the  years he attended school.

    On Friday, Martinez  will graduate from Mora High School and his goal of perfect attendance for the 12 years has been a reality.

  • Well, what do you know ... it has happened again. About once a year, always in the late Spring, I sort-of wish I lived in a cave, reason being, it is window washing time again. This isn’t a recent discovery of mine, I might add.
