    Grammy Award-winning bluesy roots-rock band Alabama Shakes, one of the hottest bands of 2016, will be performing live in Taos this summer.  The concert, an AMP Concerts and Walking Rain Productions event sponsored by the Town of Taos, will be held outdoors at Kit Carson Park on Saturday.

Well, you will be surprised to learn that in over 71 years of record, no weather station in the Las Vegas area has recorded a temperature of 100 degrees. Wednesday the mercury rose to a discomforting 90 degrees and Thursday the temperature dropped five notches to 85 in Las Vegas.

  • Wednesday, July 27, 1966 — With the football season just around the corner, football coach Jack Scofield at Highlands University is counting the days until the first game of the schedule. The Cowboys, whose first game will be against Scott College on Sept. 17, should have a good season ahead of them this year. Despite injuries in key positions last year, the Pokes won five and lost four with a young squad. This year, most of the starting squad will be back, and it will be a larger, heavier, more experienced eleven that take the field.

    Christina Perea, a native of Pecos, released her first album last week titled, “Para Mi Papa” in honor of her late father, Edwin “Halloween” Lovato of Mora.

    The album includes two well-known New Mexico song covers including “Flor de las Flores” and “Lo Mucho Que Te Quiero.”

    Eleventh Annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally will take place at Plaza Park. Starting off the day’s events is a benefit breakfast and lunch by the Knights of Columbus at the parish hall on the Plaza.
