  • Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1966 — A group of Highlands University students were initiated into Pi Gamma Mu, a national honor fraternity in Social Science. Sponsors of the group are Dr. Irma Schuster and Dr. Lynn Perrigo. Students initiated are Rhodina Irby, Aline Cipriani, Lucy Reed, Marcia Brown, Loretta Larson, Norma Prichard, Julian Josue Vigil, Joe Sullivan, Tom Rieniets, Dennis Dunnum, Marshall Whitehead, Roy Oldfield and Charles Dybdal.

    The Oct. 16, 2002 edition of the Optic has historic column headed with “Lost in 1959” by David Wesner. He says “Many Las Vegans remember the Mom and Pop stores of yesteryear. It was a phenomenon of the late 1950s and early 1960s largely — in a small way. Mom and Pop grocery stores.
