  • A recent letter to the editor in the New Mexican (the Santa Fe daily paper) by Georgia Snead caught my eye. I have known Georgia and her family for a very long time and yes, she is closely related to our famed writers, S. Omar and Elliot Barker. She wonders why Omar Barker was left out of a collection written by Walter Skold, titled “Reviving Dead Poets.”

    • Private Landowners Workshop at Pritzlaff Ranch on Saturday, May 17. There will be federal, state, and non-governmental agencies attending the workshop to provide information on conservation easements tax incentives, riparian land management, restoration projects, private landowner’s rights, sustainable thinning of trees and many more conservation programs.   • Yes, we almost blew away in April. Those bitter and ferocious winds kept a lot of us indoors. Just going out to the mailbox on our road was a challenge. That translates into doing indoor chores, and it doesn’t take much for me to get distracted.

    • Casa de Samaritan Homeless shelter at 716 Grand Ave. is operating 365 nights per year, providing meals, laundry and hot showers from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. From November through March, the shelter is open for overnight stays. Their Thrift Store, at Seventh and Legion, offers vouchers for clothing, bedding, etc. Applications for rental services for those who may qualify are available. Samaritan House offers a food pantry distribution every second and fifth Wednesday. Call 454-1390.
