Recently, participants in the Mora 4-H Shooting Sports program participated in the state’s 2016 4-H Shooting Sports contest at the Whittington NRA Center in Raton. The objectives were to assist the 4-H members to learn and practice the rules of rifle, pistol, shotgun, muzzle loading, compound and traditional archery, safety, sportsmanship and accuracy with firearms.

  • If it is August, some annual events are totally predictable. Dozens, and I do mean dozens, of hummingbirds have found my five feeders on my desk. A five-pound sack of sugar only lasts a day and at least a dozen more hummers jam each feeder. An occasional wasp also stops by for a treat, but I quickly swat him away. I’m sure we also have nests hidden in our lilac bushes, but I have not seen one. Oh, what tough little birds these cute things are!
