    The Miss Las Vegas Scholarship Organization is sponsoring the Merry Christmas Pageant on Saturday, Dec. 10. The contest is open to boys six months to five years and girls six months to 12 years. The contestants will compete in personality in holiday wear, beauty in formal wear, and photogenic. Entry deadline is Nov. 25. For more information, contact Philip Ortiz at 718-6848.

  • I will admit I am one of those news hounds who doesn’t always get the lesser sections of our newspapers. My two papers, the Optic and the Albuquerque Journal come to our ranch mailbox and I sometimes get the Saturday, Sunday and Monday Journal on Monday. I will admit I don’t always get all of the various sections of those papers read.

    However, the Nov. 12 (Saturday) Journal tucked in an article that caught my eye (no surprise there) because I live in the middle of a heavily forested mountain here at Gascon.
