Today's Features

  • Surprise! It is cold and snowy as I write this. Yes, it is past the middle of May and those of us who live in the mountains know we can still have a freeze. My geraniums will obviously have to wait another week before they can move out on my deck. So much for spring weather here.

    Friends and I enjoy a hop, skip and a jump, often on the spur of the moment, to visit my county seat, Mora, and have a chile fix lunch at one of the restaurants there. We often drive out past the alpaca ranch, just to enjoy the scenery.

    TUESDAY
    Breakfast: Cold cereal, juice, and English muffin with peanut butter
    Lunch: Baked ham, green beans, yams, dinner roll, and cake

    WEDNESDAY
    Breakfast: Boiled eggs, orange, yogurt, and bran muffin
    Lunch: Frito pie, seasoned spinach, and diced peaches

    Pecos National Historical Park will offer a free ranger-led tour of the seldom-seen Arrowhead Pueblo. This one-mile round trip visit to the 14th- century pueblo will explore the historical, archaeological, and cultural significance of this 100-plus room ruin. Visitors interested in the tour are advised to reserve a spot, as space is limited. Attendees will meet at the Visitor Center and caravan to the trailhead with a ranger.     The grand opening celebration of the Abe Montoya Recreation Center from 1:30 to 7 p.m. All recreation services will be available free of charge during the celebration, including free open swims in the newly renovated pool. Food, a DJ and children’s activities including a kiddy bounce will also be part of the celebration.

    • Volunteers are needed for overnights at the Casa de Samaritan Emergency Shelter, 716 Grand Ave. Are you or is someone you know willing and able to provide services to the less fortunate in our community and surrounding areas?
