MONDAY LUNES
• The Las Vegas Optic business office will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

• In observance of the Martin Luther King holiday San Miguel County offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

TODAY HOY
• Search and Rescue will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at the Professional Home Health Care Annex, 1931 Seventh, Las Vegas, across from the Forest Service office.

• Story Time at Carnegie Library, 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the children’s area of the public library. This week’s book is  “The Missing Mitten Mystery” by Steven Kellogg. The theme for the month is “It’s Snow Time!” All programs are free and open to the public.

TODAY HOY
• The 16th annual Polar Bear Plunge will take place at noon on Sunday, Jan. 1 - New Year’s Day, at Storrie Lake just north of Las Vegas. Every year, for 15 years, a dedicated group has jumped into the frigid waters of Storrie Lake, often times alongside floating chunks of ice, to bring in the new year. This year, of course, is no exception. The public is invited to attend and, if you are so inclined, make the jump yourself.
