    SENIOR LUNCH MENU

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Doctor father wasn’t a big fan of fruitcake

Like it or not, Art Trujillo — it is that time of year! Yes! It is time for all good cooks to make fruitcake. Of course they have to be made in October to be ready ripe, juicy-fruity (with a little help from some rum or brandy) for Christmas gift giving.

I will admit this amazing event almost got past me.

  • Mora County Notebook - Lazaro Garcia admired by many

Lazaro Garcia, a well-respected community leader from Mora county is being remembered as a staunch Democrat who set a good example for his family and his community. The 102-year-old passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Mora home on Oct. 9.

His passing shook Mora, as he was well-known and highly respected by many — not only from the small valley community and the surrounding area — but also statewide.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Bigger sisters keep smaller brothers wondering

In keeping with the spirit of seasons in my writing career, I search out ideas and possible sources of information not easily found elsewhere. I don’t have to look far into our amazing collection of “stuff” to find something and I hope the grandchildren will carry on the family reading, researching traditions.

I discovered a 1916 magazine, the October 1916 Volume XXI, Magazine of Culinary Science and Domestic Economics.”

  • Mora County Notebook - Ocaté weaver captures first place at festival

Roberta Vigil was on the prowl for years trying to learn how to weave until roughly 20 years ago when a group of women from Ocaté decided to take a class in weaving. Since then Vigil has never stopped, and her work has progressed from smooth lines to complex pieces featuring wildlife, cattle brands and unique designs.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Talk about classic beauties

“There is a story here.” I must have said that a dozen times recently. I discovered an event at nearby (to me) Pendaries called the Autumn Harvest Festival. Center stage in  this event was an exhibit, a lineup of some very special cars.
