  • Vigil to be inducted into Hall of Fame

    Anita Vigil, a 1987 graduate of Mora High School, will be inducted into the Abilene Christian College Hall of Fame during homecoming in October.

    The women’s basketball standout and six others will be inducted into the Texas college’s hall of fame for their accomplishments in sports ranging from baseball to track.

    In order to be nominated for the honor, an individual must have been out of college for at least 10 years. Nominees are then voted on by a selection committee. Vigil won the admiration of the committee and others who know her work.

  • Remembering summer times on the ranch

    And then just out of the blue, as they say, comes a long letter from one of our so many (about 60) kids that lived and worked with us during our busy dude ranch/cattle ranch operation. What a happy time to reminisce about life, the life and times of an important era in these many teenagers’ history.

    Noon to 3 p.m - Spaghetti Benefit Dinner - building fund for VFW. Building expansion which will allow for larger community activities - $7 donation adults and $5 for children

    We all know that a tiny spark that falls on a very dry forest starts a forest fire, instantly. The recent fires just over the hill from us brought back so many memories of fires here, not all that long ago.

  • Mora County Notebook: Chacon resident is a gifted photographer

    Sharon Stewart, a resident of Chacon, has exhibited her photography in shows throughout the United States.

    In 1987 through 1989 her pictures were shown in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Charleroi, Belgium and Frankfurt, Germany

    Currently her photos are being exhibited at the exhibit ‘Earth Now,’ American Photographers and the Environment at New Mexico Museum of Art on the Plaza in Santa Fe. The exhibit can be viewed through Oct. 9.

    Summer brings yard sales, and yard sales bring friends from near and far for a brief visit, while shopping for just the perfect one-of-a-kind item that we just can’t live without. The very recent Pendaries Ladies sale was fun, and very near by.

  • Mora County Notebook: Mora schools bustling with summer activities

    The Mora School grounds are not vacant for the summer. Although school is out there is a lot going on.

    There is a basketball camp under way for the young people who are aspiring to be on the Rangers and Rangerettes team in the future.

    Another basketball camp just finished which included children from ages 6 to 13 under the  direction of James Branch, the new Mora Rangers basketball coach.
