  • Palabras Pintorescas: The Christmas gift that got a warm Valmora welcome

We’ve heard of guns and roses, and in my family it actually is guns and a Christmas tree. Yet another box of very old files from my father’s collection brings back another memory from long ago.

  • Mora County Notebook: Mora Little League registration under way

Saturday the Mora Little League had its first registration day at Russell’s parking lot.

It was a busy day for the Little League representatives. They were thankful for the beautiful day (excepting for the wind).

There were many parents and young players enthusiastically looking forward to a new season.

Young people from ages 4 through 16 came to signup for the 2011 Little league season. There were 35 players who signed up on Saturday.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Butter chips and the railroad track walker

I’ll bet 90 percent of today’s young people have no idea, not even an inkling of,  what a butter chip is. Butter chips went out of style when I was small, but I do remember our proper British mother demanding they be placed at the correct spot on our very formal holiday tables when set, at Valmora. These very small, sometimes fancy plates held one’s pat of butter, of course.
