  • Mora County Notebook: Haunted house and so much more

Halloween was well celebrated in Mora last weekend.

There was the haunted house on Sunday. The Little League players, board members and parents went all out to make a spooky haunted house at the elementary gym. The lobby was even spooky with a witch at the popcorn machine and a ticket taker beside her.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: The swirling golden curtain of the fall

No matter how much things may change, some things just seem to stay the same. As I write this at the late date for change of seasons topics, I wonder what comes next in out crazy weather cycles.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Honoring our late friends and neighbors

The calendar says Fall in big letters, and this translates into Halloween and, in Mexico, The Day of the Dead — La Dia del Muerto. I have been in Mexico two different years for this very important event, and I enjoyed every visit to the events and the very elaborate altars honoring the dead.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Hat on for our wonderful state

I have never been a salesperson, and I probably never will try to sell anything I come in contact with. However, there is one exception to that rule of mine. Ask me about my wonderful state, New Mexico, and I can always get on a “promote New Mexico” bandwagon.

  • Mora County Notebook: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Americans observe Hispanic Heritage Month each year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. It is a tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched America and their society.

The theme for this year is: “Many backgrounds, many stories, one American Spirit.” As I read the material in the internet many people who have influenced the history of the United States were shown. There have been congressmen, artists, lawyers, musicians, doctors, professors, writers, teachers, athletes, business folks, and many more.
