    Dakota Alcon has many ribbons and honors in marksmanship with a rifle shooting and bow archery contests because he would not give up.

  • Mora County Notebook: Mora 4-H shines at county fair

    The Mora 4-H Club members did very well in their participation in the Mora /San Miguel County Fair recently. Thirty one Mora 4-H members took part in this year’s fair.  

    Several Mora County natives  won grand champions and reserve grand champions with their animals.

    In the lamb division Abigail Aragon had the Grand Champion Lamb and Augustine Romero the Reserved Champion Lamb.

    In the goat division Pete Aragon had the Grand Champion Goat and Jett Smith the Reserved Champion Goat.

    Candace Roybal had the Reserve Champion Steer.

    6:30 p.m. - Free showing of “Gasland” a documentary about the toxic chemicals that are polluting aquifers and streams because of natural gas drilling. Popcorn and drinks will be provided at Tapetes de Lana in Mora.

  • Family history comes to light

    Half the fun of having children and now adult grandchildren is surprising them with some obscure bit of family history that they had no idea ever existed. This just came to light again when a copy of the book, “The Crash of TWA Flight 260” by Charles M. Williams joined my New Mexico collection of our written history.

  • Mora Elementary welcomes new staff members

    The teachers have been in orientation since Monday in preparation for the new school year. All of the students began their school year on Wednesday.

    There are some new teachers and a new principal in the elementary school.

    The rest of the staff is the same as last year, although some have different assignments.

  • Vigil to be inducted into Hall of Fame

    Anita Vigil, a 1987 graduate of Mora High School, will be inducted into the Abilene Christian College Hall of Fame during homecoming in October.

    The women’s basketball standout and six others will be inducted into the Texas college’s hall of fame for their accomplishments in sports ranging from baseball to track.

    In order to be nominated for the honor, an individual must have been out of college for at least 10 years. Nominees are then voted on by a selection committee. Vigil won the admiration of the committee and others who know her work.
