  • Palabras Pintorescas: History repeats itself

I can’t resist one last column about our Las Vegas and area history as recorded in my copy of the May 30, 1954 edition of the Denver Post. This story only proves history does repeat itself.

  • Mora County Notebook - Groundbreaking held for senior center

Recently, a great event took place in Wagon Mound as a group of people gathered on the outskirts of Wagon Mound for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new senior citizens center.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: We aren’t just the other Las Vegas any more

As I continue to marvel at the huge newspaper story in my old, ragged copy of the Denver Post (May 30, 1954) The July issue of New Mexico Magazine lands in my mailbox. “Las Vegas Historic Revival” is headlined on the cover, no less!
Turn to page 36, and you will discover seven (yes, 7) pages of fabulous photographs and text about “our town,” no less.

  • Mora County Notebook - Pacheco, Olivas attend law camp

Editor’s Note: A version of this law camp article was published last week. We are running an updated version of it because last week’s article contained several errors.

Amiree Olivas and Krystah Pacheco will return to school in the fall with a remarkable experience to talk about. Earlier this month the two Lazaro Garcia (Mora) Middle School students attended a five-day law camp at the University of New Mexico. The two have since returned to their respective homes full of excitement and thrilled to have experienced the camp.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: What is next with our crazy weather?

The middle of June did not come and go quietly here in our mountains. The rains, even brief showers have left this area brilliant green, with our mountain grasses high and already starting to head out. I continue to wonder: what is next with our crazy weather?

  • Mora County Notebook - Middle school students attend law camp

Two Lazaro Garcia Middle School students recently returned from a week at University of New Mexico Law Camp. They were thrilled and excited with the experiences they had during the week. They stayed on campus all week. The program and expenses was funded by the Hispanic Bar Association.

Krystah Pacheco, daughter of Jessyka Sanchez, and Amiree Olivas, daughter of John and Pam Olivas, qualified to attend the camp. They both had to have high grades and write an essay, in addition to having to be recommended by various people.
