  • Author to visit Mora Saturday

    Las Vegas author Edwina Romero will discuss her book, Footlights in the Foothills: Amateur Theatre of Las Vegas and Fort Union, New Mexico, 1871-1899, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Mora’s Tapetes de Lana Weaving Center.

    The Friends of the City of Las Vegas Museum and Rough Rider Memorial Collection, co-sponsor,  will also be promoting their upcoming new book for the State Centennial Year, Las Vegas, New Mexico: Boomtown on the Southwestern Frontier.

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Water tour with the Rotarians

    That old adage “water, water everywhere and nary a drop to drink” comes to mind as I review recent events in my busy life. Don’t we wish there was adequate and potable water nearby, as we watch this dry period continue.

    I was fortunate, in the right place at the right time sort of thing, when the Rotary Club toured our Gallinas River, Bradner and Peterson Dam water storage areas. Bernadette and Robert, along with councilman Andrew Feldman gave us a cram course in basically what’s right and what’s wrong with Las Vegas water.

  • Mora County Notebook: Haunted house and so much more

    Halloween was well celebrated in Mora last weekend.

    There was the haunted house on Sunday. The Little League players, board members and parents went all out to make a spooky haunted house at the elementary gym. The lobby was even spooky with a witch at the popcorn machine and a ticket taker beside her.

  • Mora County Notebook: Youth entertain the seniors of Mora County

    The seniors were happily surprised to have a group of young people come to the center on Friday and give them a free dance. The music was furnished by the Jovenes de Amistad.

    The group is made up of 13-year-old Ferdinand (JR) Valencia, his 11-year- old brother Julius A. Valencia They are the sons of Ferdinand and Alfreda Valencia.

    Another member of the band is a friend 13- year-old Emmerick Martinez — the son of Rachel Roybal -Martinez and Eugenio (Geno) Martinez and the grandson of Mary Lou Roybal and Orlando Roybal and Eugenio and Gloria Martinez.
