    • Las Vegas Cub Scouts Pack 60 has begun its annual popcorn sales. Cub Scouts is a nonprofit organization that uses the proceeds as a fundraiser. Cub Scouting promotes a boy’s character, citizenship and fitness in a positive and educational manner. To purchase popcorn or for more information, call Ida Sue at 617-0849.

  • Mora County Notebook: Scouts participate in financial literacy class

    Classes on financial literacy are being sponsored by St Gertrude’s Credit Union for the Mora Girls Scouts of America. The classes are being held at the community room at Helping Hands.

    Seventeen girl scouts along with their leader, Lillian Maestas met at the community room last Wednesday. The credit union manager Esther Martinez and her assistant Isabel Lopez taught the girls the advantage of saving money.

  • Memorias de Mora project off to a flying start

    The Memorias De Mora Theater Project took wings on Saturday as the production of “Roots and Wings: A Call for Stories” was performed at the Joseph M. Montoya Gym. Under the direction of David Olson of Theaterwork Santa Fe, Mora High School students acted out an ensemble piece based on interviews collected by students at the high school.

    Not only were the stories the basis of the play, but will be the building blocks for a more extended piece slated to reach the stage in late June.

    Oh, my ... the memories come flooding back when I see the little children pressing their noses on to the incredibly fancy Christmas windows at the big stores in Chicago and New York, among many places. Sweet brother Bill and I had that very special treat for many years when we were little.

    What do you know! A very new book just came my way. I knew a lot about it back in 1995 and then I more or less forgot about it. Now it is published and there will be a meet and greet, a book signing at Tome on the Range imminently, as in 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4. I will be there, for obvious reasons!
