  • Mora County Notebook - County, State Land Office sign memorandum

    Mora County Commissioners attended the 76th annual New Mexico  Association of Counties earlier this month in Las Vegas. County Manager Tomas Sanchez was also in attendance.

    It was a busy three days for the commissioners and county managers. and presenters of the workshops. People from all over the state of New Mexico converged on Las Vegas for the gathering of the counties.

  • Mora County Notebook - Beautification at Cleveland Park

    The Cleveland Park is getting a clean-up, repair and beautification this summer, thanks to Mora County, Mora Valley Chamber of Commerce, Mora Valley Ranch Supply Store and several community members who are partnering with the Rocky Mountain Youth Corp. to provide employment for eight youth this summer.

    The Cleveland Park in Mora County is being cleaned and regenerated. The youth are currently trimming brush and cleaning up the vegetation, and building a walking trail around the park.

  • Palabras Pintorescas - Summer recipes

    If it is summertime, the living should be easy. Part of my easy living includes make-ahead dishes for lunch or supper. After so many years of three big meals a day for a crowd, a few tricks of this cooking trade have rubbed off on me.

    My summer calendar has begun to fill up. I now intend to be ahead of the game. I’ll have lunches almost completed and ready to pull out of the “ice box” as they used to be called.

  • Mora County Notebook - Youth group places at competition

    The Mora Youth Hunter Education Challenge showed a great improvement at the state meet in Raton, N.M., earlier this month.

    Last year, they placed 12th when competing against other groups in the state. Now in the 2012 meet they raised their scores to place eight. The Youth Hunter Education Challenge is an international event that is held every June at the Whittington Center near Raton every June. The event is sponsored by National Rifle Association, 4H, New Mexico Game and Fish Department, and New Mexico Shooting Sports.

  • Native takes over as executive director

    Julian Barela of Rainsville was recently appointed as executive director of the Mora Valley Community Health Services by its board.

    Barela graduated from Mora High School in 1999.

    In 2003, he graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration on finance.

    In 2004, he received his master’s degree in business administration at NMHU.
