  • Palabras Pintorescas: Ranch life demands plenty of skill in fixing up broken ‘what’s-its’

When one lives in the country, particularly this big Mora County country, and when one’s father is the nearest doctor for many a bumpy road mile, one gets to know one’s neighbors in quite a different and fun way.

Such was the case when I lived at Valmora, the tuberculosis hospital where a huge x-ray machine, an operating room and an emergency room were right next to our home. I’m always surprised and saddened when I read yet another obituary in the Optic about yet another acquaintance.
