  • Palabras Pintorescas: Another find of treasured memories

You guessed it . . . I can hear my kids say, “Oh, no, Mom has found yet another old picture.” Yes, kids you are right, and I can weave a whole story around and about this picture.

  • Mora County Notebook - A bit of the valley in the Duke City

A little bit of Mora and San Miguel counties is in the metro area of Albuquerque this holiday season. For numerous years,

Ted Roybal and his family have been selling freshly cut white fir and piñon trees from the Mora and Pecos mountains to residents of the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho area.

“I have been doing it for years,” Roybal, a resident of Rainsville, said in a telephone interview Thursday. “I was born into the business and have been doing it all my life.”

  • Palabras Pintorescas: A spring-like day in the middle of December?

What is wrong with this picture? Here I sit at my typewriter; it is almost the middle of December and it is 55 degrees at noon here at 8,250 feet elevation. I just came inside and it feels like a spring day outside.

I have one of my “ugly” Christmas sweaters on (I have never thought they were ugly!) and daughter Sherry just told me there was a shop near her in Phoenix that advertises and sells dozens of ugly sweater cookies, no less.

The ugly sweater shop also is doing well, she says, even in  the warm and hot Arizona.

    SENIOR LUNCH MENU

  • Palabras Pintorescas: Timely tips from 1917 Christmas magazine

I was all set to write a column about our areas “Rails and Trails events” around here (mostly in Las Vegas in the 1980s and ‘90s). That will be postponed because I just discovered a 1917 American Cookery magazine, the December issue and there are some nifty hints and ideas published so long ago.

  • Plenty of events for the weekend

Mora County residents get ready, this weekend is going to be full of fun this weekend in Mora as the Christmas invasion has begun.

Tonight (Friday) starting at 6 p.m. at Tapetas de Lana in Mora will host “Noche de Familia.” The evening will consist of a movie, food and other fun activities.

This event is sponsored by the Mora County DWI program. Everyone is welcome to this free event that promotes sobriety and family.
