  • Inaugural Las Vegas Paint Out begins today

    Those who like to make art out of doors or who think they might like to try it are invited to register for the first Las Vegas Paint Out, today (Wednesday) through Saturday.  The Las Vegas Plein Air Club and the Las Vegas Arts Council are coordinating this outdoor painting event to inspire local artists and to introduce others to our unique town and its environs.

  • Annual enchilada dinner fundraiser next Thursday

    The annual enchilada dinner to fund Mustard Seed grants to non-profit groups in Las Vegas and the surrounding area takes place on Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Hillcrest Restaurant.

    Next Thursday’s dinner marks the 14th anniversary of the Mustard Seed program sponsored by the local First United Presbyterian Church. The church devotes all profits from the dinner to funding projects by other organizations in the community.

  • ‘Lyrical Passion’ concert to feature HU music faculty

    New Mexico Highlands University music  faculty Linda King and Andre Garcia-Nuthmann will present a concert, Lyrical Passion, at 3 p.m. on Oct. 7, featuring the music of Schumann, Brahms and Franck.

    King, a concert pianist, and Garcia-Nuthmann, a tenor vocalist, will be joined by Krzysztof Zimowki, a violinist who is the concertmaster for the New Mexico Philharmonic and the Opera Southwest Orchestra.

  • 8th annual Concert for the Birds Sunday

    The Eighth annual Outdoor Concert for the Birds and Kids Fun in Nature Day will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, just east of the city.

    There are many fun events throughout the day. This year there will be very popular hayride beginning at noon. Another event will be archery lessons beginning at 1 p.m.

  • CASA to hold fundraiser

    The Fourth Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocate program will be holding a Silent Auction from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Flamingo Room of the Hillcrest Restaurant. This event is to raise money so that CASA can continue to serve children in foster care in San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe counties.

  • Dr. Owen DeWitt joins Alta Vista Regional Hospital

    Orthopedic surgeon Owen DeWitt, M.D., has joined the Alta Vista Regional Hospital staff and the community. DeWitt is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with 24 years of experience. DeWitt utilizes both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat bone, muscle, tendon and joint injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

    DeWitt is no stranger to New Mexico. As a teenager he worked on a ranch outside of Tucumcari and from there his love for New Mexico grew.
