The Tenth Annual Concert for the Birds and Kids Fun in Nature Day at Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge takes place this Sunday.

This free event will be held on Sunday afternoon. Bring the kids, the old folks and your lawn chair; join the Friends and staff of Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge for a Tenth Annual Concert for the Birds and Kids Fun in Nature Day.

Kids Fun in Nature activities start at noon at the refuge visitor center on state highway 281, just east of Las Vegas.

In honor of Smokey Bear’s 70th anniversary as official “spokesbear” for wildfire prevention across the United States, the New Mexico State Fair has invited him to be the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade.

Dan Mourning, EXPO New Mexico’s general manager, announced that Smokey and his friends from the New Mexico State Forestry Division have said yes.
