  • Comedian to perform Friday

    Highlands University

    New Mexico Highlands University presents acclaimed stand-up comedian Gary Owen at 7 p.m. on April 15 in the university’s Ilfeld Auditorium, 900 University Ave.

    The Highlands University Office of Campus life is sponsoring Owen’s performance.

    Campus Life Director Margaret Gonzales said Owen performed on campus during Homecoming 2010 and was very popular, adding that Owen’s comedy contains adult language and is not suitable for young children.

  • Seed exchange is Saturday

    Area residents will be coming together Saturday, April 9 at the Luna Community College cafeteria to meet, share heirloom seeds, and exchange knowledge about local agriculture.

    The free event, titled “Compartiendo Semillas, Sembrando el Futuro,” (Sharing Seeds, Planting the Future) is sponsored by several local organizations including Casa de Cultura, Las Vegas Barter Hours, Luna Community College and the Tri-County Farmers Market.

  • Brass recital this Saturday

    Highlands University

    The New Mexico Highlands University music faculty will present a brass recital at 3 p.m. on April 9 featuring the compositions of Galliard, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov and Persichetti.

    The recital is in the Margaret Kennedy Alumni Hall, 905 University Ave. The musical selections range from the baroque to the modern era.

    Highlands University music professor and band director Edward Harrington will play trombone and tuba in the recital. Adjunct music faculty member Greg Tyrone will also play tuba.

  • Friends host annual meeting

    The third annual raffle drawing for the Friends of the City of Las Vegas Museum took place on Feb. 24 at the Museum. The drawing was held in conjunction with the Friends’ public Annual Meeting.  

    Margaret Vazquez-Geffroy and Patrick Alarid, were re-elected to the Friends Board and the past year’s Friends and Museum activities were reported.

    The office is generally thought of as a senior domain, but teacher Joselle DeMarco encouraged her to run.
