  • Lujan, Potter, Saiz, and Gonzales crowned

    The Sixth Annual Baby/Tiny Miss and Mister Las Vegas Pageant was held last month at West Las Vegas High School.  
    Twenty one girls and five boys competed for the titles in beauty in formal wear and personality in patriotic wear.

    Mariah Devine Lujan won the title of Baby Miss Las Vegas 2014.  She also won the title of Candid Princess and Best Personality. Lujan, 2, is the daughter of Robert and Crystal Lujan.  

  • Leippe to be recognized at NMHU summer reunion

    Legendary Highlands University fine arts professor and renowned sculptor Harry Leippe will be honored at the Summer Alumni Reunion Friday.
    The distinguished emeritus professor and longtime Las Vegas resident will be recognized at the alumni dinner at 6 p.m. in the ballroom of the Student Union Building at the northwest corner of National Avenue and 8th Street.
    Leippe’s 28-year tenure at Highlands began in 1962, during the university’s visual arts renaissance.

  • Donnelly Library offers spring reading group

    The New Mexico Highlands University Donnelly Library presents a free spring reading and discussion group titled “Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys.”

    The books are available at Donnelly Library, thanks to a National Endowment for the Humanities grant awarded to the library for the Muslim Journeys collection.

    All of the authors featured in the current Muslim Journeys discussion group have received acclaim and awards for their best-selling books.

  • Annual Sweetheart Dance Saturday at Plaza Hotel

    Rough Rider Blues Sweetheart Dance and Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Museum will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Plaza Hotel Ballroom.

    Come listen and dance to the blues tunes of the Low Down Daddies. This event is the Friends of the Las Vegas City Museum and Rough Rider Memorial Collection Third Annual Sweetheart Dance and Annual Meeting. It is a special tribute of appreciation to the Las Vegas greater community for the many years of encouragement and support.

  • LANL Foundation chair to head grantmakers association

    Susan Herrera, CEO of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation, has been elected chair of the Board of the New Mexico Association of Grantmakers.

    The association serves foundations and private philanthropists throughout New Mexico. It hosted a conference “Finding Common Ground: Joining Together to Improve New Mexico” late last year at Tamaya Resort for grantmakers and nonprofits. The conference was partially funded by a grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
