A picture perfect day, a golf course in pristine condition and a lot of hard work by the Tournament committee contributed to a wonderful Play Day Tournament Aug. 25 at the Gene Torres Highlands Course.

Twenty women from Las Vegas, Santa Fe and Pendaries competed for prizes which were awarded at a luncheon following the 18-hole scramble tournament.

Martha Spencer won “closest to the hole” and Las Vegas’ own Dodie Torres won “longest drive.”

A very close competition for first place saw Em Krall, Anne Pepper, Martha Spencer and Merrilee Garcia inch out second-place winners Anna Aragon,  Norma Tapia, Carol Locklin and Kay Holman.

The women enjoyed breakfast burritos provided by Tournament Chairman Merlyn Gonzales’s Laguna Vista Quickstop, lunch by La Piedra Grill, homemade cookies from the members of the LVWGA and many door prizes that were awarded.

“The event was a resounding success and we are  looking forward to next year’s event,” said Pepper.
