Still five weight classes shy of a full team, the West Las Vegas wrestling squad neverthless cracked the top four in this past weekend’s Piedra Vista Panther Classic.
John Armijo won his 171-pound class in dominant fashion and was presented with the Outstanding Wrestler award for the higher divisions.
Armijo scored a 10-2 decision over Bayfield (Colo.) standout Jeff Huffmyer in the final.
“He had a good showing,” said head coach Robert Alarcon. “But he’s still not there (in terms of wrestling shape). He’ll get better.”
