THE 60-14 score last evening against the outmanned, outplayed, and outclassed Oklahoma Panhandle University reminded me of the HU-Coached John Levra days back in the late 60's-early70's. When college football was fun to watch at Perkins Stadium, where the 'Pokes won nearly every game, including two bowl games, Hula Bowl, including Division I University of Hawaii in Honolulu! The second one was the Boot Hill Bowl, in Kansas.
I heard more than 3,500 fans came out to the stadium to support Coach Eric Young & his squad. It's really heartening to hear the Meadow City has gotten back into SUPPORTING the 'Pokes!
But what many followers don't know is the QUALITY of football player now representing HU.
There are at least THREE players with Division I experience; Jordan Campbell, formerly of USC Trojans; Harold Mobley, formerly of Colorado Buffalos; and Emmanuel Lewis, formerly of Ball State (Indiana) Cardinals.
Coupled with a great defensive backs Tony Udley, Jordan Campbell (who plays both ways), Devon Howard, and Virdell Larkins (Rawlings RMAC Player-of-the-Week vs ENMU), to name a few, can you NOT blame head coach Eric Young for being stealth with the offensive and defensive weapons he knew he had?
Next week, the 'Pokes travel to Golden,CO to play the nationally-ranked Colorado Mines and a few weeks down the road will hostRMAC Champion University of Nebraska, Kearny are in for a big "SHOCK AND AWE" when they play the 'Pokes.
Concluding, it reminds one of deja-vu, doesn't it? When Coach Joe Harge turned the 1-19 basketball team around in 2009 to set a NCAA record 20 wins? There are alot of similarities here; both are WINNING COACHES & both know how to recruit!
