West Las Vegas’ baseball team battled to an 8-8 stalemate with host Moriarty on Tuesday evening, with the game being called due to darkness.
The Class 4A Pintos were a late addition to the Dons’ schedule. West had been originally slated to play at Class 1A Questa on Thursday, but when that fell through, Moriarty agreed to a game.
Jorge Gallardo paced the West Las Vegas offense, going 2 for 3 and scoring three runs.
“Pancho Caro threw another good game,” noted WLV head coach Ryan Gabaldon. “Andy Gabaldon did well on defense; he was making diving catches out there. And we only struck out three times as a team.”
Patience at the plate has been a positive for West thus far. In three games, the Dons have struck out just 10 times combined.
“So these guys are hitting the ball,” Gabaldon said. “We’re going to be all right.”
West (1-1-1) is scheduled to play at Monte del Sol on Monday, then take on Class 4A Española Valley at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the opening round of a tournament at Aztec.
